One of my assignments from yesterday was to be an active blogger with good content.

Well, here I am, actively blogging. All that is left is some good content.

Double Fried Egg Chili Chutney Sandwich

RIMMER crawls unsteadily to the clock and peers at it blearily. He is
clearly suffering the awful after-effects of drinking.

RIMMER: Saturday.
LISTER: Is that the best you can do?
RIMMER: There are some numbers next to it, but they could be anything.
LISTER: Do you know what I fancy right now?
RIMMER: A big, fat woman with thighs the size of a hippo's.
LISTER: No, I want a triple fried egg butty with chili sauce and chutney.
RIMMER: (Managing to sit down in a chair.) Me too.
LISTER: Well no problem then. Nothing's too good for the deathday boy.
RIMMER: Correct! (Punches air.)
A double will do for me.

Coriander chutney and sriracha chili sauce with tomatoes and two fried eggs on bread.

Silly on Coroflot

There is always a risk when you post a ridiculous picture of yourself on the internet. I made the choice to put my silly balaclava picture up in my portfolio. About 12 hours later, I have a letter in my inbox notifying me that my silly balaclava picture has been featured in the coroflot member gallery.

That is me in the upper left wearing by far the stupidest hat that I have ever made. Thank you coroflot for featuring my insanity.

Hat Challenge - The Sexy Babushka

A while ago I thought of the sexy babushka project and I think I posted about it. Here are the results of my attempt to knit a sexy babushka.

Though it is not quite "sexy" I think that it does a good job at being less grandmothery than most babushkas. It looks good tied in the back too, and it looks ok worn down. Overall, this was a nice exploration of short-row pattern making. The pattern will be available in the next few weeks if there is an interest.

THE CHALLENGE- out sexy my babushka and link to yours.

Hat Challenge - The Silly Balaclava

The challenge was to make the least intimidating balaclava possible.

I came up with this versatile hat/balaclava which can potentially look very silly depending on how it is worn. I have been wanting to make a hat like this for a long time, and have many sketches of the ridiculously long hat with eye holes theme.

So, rate my success. Would you laugh if I tried to rob a bank while wearing this?

Destashing was Done

Destashing was done last night when I made two neck warmers out of old yarn that has been sitting around for possibly 20 years. Pictures will be taken later, and then I will make some skirts. Is this enough for a day?

Spocks

I put up some old Spocks that I drew last summer.

Thank Archizoom

Archizoom Associati Dressing Design, 1972
Photo d'Oliviero Toscani dans le studio des Archizoom Associati
vêtements portés par Dona Jordan et un ami des Archizoom
I would like to thank Archizoom Associatti for this little preview of hipster fashion. I am pretty sure that this is the primary inspiration for the American Apparel leotard revival. I found the information for this picture on another blog which is not written in English but as far as I can tell they have their info correct. I wonder what they have to say about this image.

It makes me laugh to see this man in a pink deep-V body suit wearing a pair of limited edition Chuck Taylors and a cowboy hat. He even has an ironic beard. Have I seen this god among hipsters trolling the Pratt campus?

I wonder if these are thong leotards. The high cut leg holes suggest so.

It bothers me that this may actually be the future of fashion. It also bothers me that American Apparel seems to be more than inspired by early PoMo design.

The Hamptons: A place for beaching

I was invited to go to the Hamptons for the weekend by a friend. Though I am not at all fond of beaches, sand, and mosquitoes, he assured me that a weekend in East Hampton is the most relaxing experience that I will ever have.

I do not like beaches, saltwater, Architectural Digest, or "relaxing."

1. Beaches
  • Beaches are full of sand, and sand gets everywhere. Contrary to popular belief, the Sandwich was not named after an earl. It was renamed for the small fairies that live along the coastline ruining every beach-goer's  lunch with grit.
  • Beaches are very pretty, if you like looking at stock photos for travel agency brochures. Generally they all look pretty (similar).
  • Beaches are a great place to watch people cover themselves in oil, sand, and salt then turn colors. Some people turn pink and peely, some turn brown and scaly.
2. Saltwater
  • Saltwater makes you sticky.
  • Saltwater makes your hair stand up at all angles.
  • Saltwater burns when it touches your blistered feet.
3. Architectural  Digest
  • Architectural digest is a very conservative and banal representation of stylish interior design.
  • Architectural digest still has a lot of images of dark, Victorian rooms cluttered with artifacts which serve no purpose. This is OK in print, but in real life, it is hard to decorate a room this way. Irrelevant objects end up mixed in with the decoration and dusting becomes difficult.
  • Architectural Digest seems to appeal to people who are staged, stiff and approachable like the interiors in the magazine.
4. Relaxing
  • Relaxing is a lot like just being bored.
There was only one picture that was worth taking. The girliest/most narcissistic graffiti that I have ever seen:
It looks like it should be written in lipstick on a mirror. It is the artistic expression of narcissism which makes the Hamptons better then the Jersey shore. It is what people who talk about their Hampton houses are begging you to do.
